SHILLONG: Dharmendra Kumar Prasad, Deputy Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong has made Meghalaya Police and the state proud by winning the prestigious Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation.
The honour is a first for the state police
The award is given to police personnel for their excellence in investigation to promote high professional standards of investigation of crime.
Prasad said he had cracked the particular case with the help of his dedicated team within 24 hours and the accused was arrested and within 30 days, the investigation was completed.
After the charge sheet was filed, the accused was convicted by the court and sentenced to three years of imprisonment with fine and is currently lodged in Shillong District Jail, he said.
The case was cracked with the help of scientific evidence collected during the course of the investigation, he added. He however refused to divulge the nature of the case.
Prasad has also been in the forefront of many creative initiatives. Under his leadership, Shillong’s Sadar Police station became the epitome of cleanliness in 2016.
The official has lent active support to the cause of the third gender while also bringing in creative solution over baton policing to tackle drug menace in the state.
His initiative to give Christmas gifts to poor families during the Christmas season is another act of being a humble citizen of Meghalaya which has helped him touch the hearts of many.
Originally from Bihar, Prasad has settled in Shillong for over 40 years. He studied in All Saints Diocesan High School and graduated from St. Anthony’s College and later joined the Meghalaya Police as Sub-Inspector in February 1, 1990.
He has also served as the Assistant Commandant of 1st Battalion Meghalaya Police and also as the Officer-in-Charge of the Sardar Police Station.
