Meghalaya Cabinet’s nod to allot Umjot, Umduma projects to NEEPCO

SHILLONG: The State Cabinet has decided to allot Umjot (renamed as Wah Umiam stage1 ) and Umduma (renamed as Wah Umiam stage II) to North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO)

Power Minister, James Sangma after the Cabinet meeting said that the meeting of the empowered committee of the power department was  held regarding the allotment of these two projects and the Cabinet allotted the stage I and stage II even as he added that the stage III project was also being implemented by the NEEPCO.

The project earlier was supposed to be implemented by Etha star

The previous government approved the cancellation of the agreement signed with private developers for the two projects at Umduna and Umjot, since they had failed to proceed for development of the projects.

The detailed estimates of the project would now be prepared by the Power department, James Sangma said.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet also approved the draft guarantee deed since the Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Limited is seeking a loan of Rs 60 crore from Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd  in order to meet the remaining liabilities for the final cost of Myntdu Leshkha hydro project
