TURA:  The first ever tribal research institute in Garo Hills will be inaugurated at Babadam Chidekgre on Tuesday.
The central government, through the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, has sanctioned Rs 41 crore for the research institute, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at Chidekgre village, the heart of Garo culture preservation.
“There has never been a specific research institute for the preservation of Garo culture and customs. Late P A Sangma had during his life time wanted an institute that would research, document and preserve our traditional ways of life. His dream is now turning into reality,” said the chief minister while addressing the gathering during the memorial lecture on his father’s 3rd death anniversary.
Saying it is a matter of immense happiness that within a year of his government the central government has allocated a sum of Rs 41 crore for the research institute, Conrad Sangma added, “We must ensure the vision of P A Sangma is taken up and fulfilled and thereby move forward with the rest of the North East region.”
