SHILLONG: A woman from Bamonpara locality of Tura who was earlier accused by the Co-Chairman of the GSMC of allowing the illegal felling of a tree in her compound has rubbished the claims of the committee and informed that it was MePDCL employees who had trimmed the tree as its branches touched the electric wires.

Earlier, GSMC Co-Chairman, Balkarin Marak had alleged that the tree was illegally being felt on the orders of one Elsa B Sangma without any proper authorization from the concerned authorities. Sangma while countering the allegation hit out at the GSMC saying the same was made without any basis.

“The MEPDCL employees keep regular checking of the electric lines as there was an incident during 2010 of the frequent spark from nearby transformer which caught my house thus completely destroying my old house by fire,” Sangma said and added that facts should have been first verified.
