SHILLONG: Three police personnel have been suspended for lax security that helped under-trial prisoner David Lyngdoh, or Bah Jyllud, to escape from custody on Wednesday.
SP (City) Steve Rynjah said on Thursday the three personnel have been suspended for dereliction of duty.
It may be mentioned that the infamous ‘massage man’ escaped from the washroom of the UTP hall of the deputy commissioner’s office when he was brought from Nongpoh jail to be produced in a court here in connection with an old case.
Rynjah said the police are following up the matter and Lyngdoh would be arrested.
It is not the first time that Lyngdoh, who has several aliases, ran away from police custody. There are molestation and theft cases against him. Lyngdoh, also known as ‘Phantom’, was arrested for the third time in 2012 on charges of burglary and bike theft.
Again, in 2017, two FIRs were lodged against him for breaking into a house in Madanrting and stealing a cell phone and wallet. He was also caught in July 2017 from Umdihar Nongpoh only to escape again. He was re-arrested from Laitumkhrah in August 2017.
