SHILLONG: The enrolment centres for government health insurance in the city are witnessing huge rush and to avoid this, the Health Department is contemplating outsource of work.
Many people are turning up every day to enroll their names for the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in convergence with Megha Health Insurance Phase IV. Health Secretary Pravin Bakshi said on Thursday the government has so far enrolled 1.11 lakh and every day around 5,000 cards are being issued.
“There are over 100 kits which are enrolling people in different parts of the state. The government is also contemplating tying up with Rainbow Common Service Centres so that people can enroll themselves even at the CSCs in any part of the state,” said Bakshi.
The government may also increase the number of kits from the existing 100 so that more people can be enrolled in a short period.
Some people who went for the enrolment said the government must make the process systematic.
Bakshi said the department’s work has increased by fivefold because universal cards are being issued to every citizen of the state and this time there is no limit. It has to enroll around 30 lakh beneficiaries. It is a one-time card and there is no need for renewing it every year as was the case earlier.
The government and the insurance company are meeting once every week to review the process. “People should not be in a hurry for enrolment… This is our responsibility to ensure that each and every house is enrolled,” said Bakshi, adding that people should not pay more than Rs 30 during enrolment.
