Meghalaya govt plans to set up helipads in all district HQs

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy on Friday informed that the state Assembly that the state government intended to build helipads on civilian land suitably located in New Shillong Township as well as in district head quarters.

The Governor was addressing the budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on the first day.

He also informed that the state government had notified Meghalaya State Weighbridges Policy, 2018 whereby all the designated weighbridges shall function as integrated checkpoints and those would be manned by the personnel from Transport, Mining & Geology, Forest and Environment, Home (Police) departments.

With regard to flight services, Roy said the Transport Department had initiated the process for expansion of Umroi Airport under the direction of Meghalaya High Court.

“It is expected that 42/72 seater flights will operate shortly to connect Shillong with other state capitals in the region,” he said.
