SHILLONG: UDP MDC Paul Lyngdoh on Thursday said that the oath-taking ceremony in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) should be done in Khasi language and mooted the idea of singing the Khasi anthem before starting and ending the session.
The former president of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) said singing the Khasi national anthem will inspire MDCs to work hard, besides ensuring protection of Khasi identity.
Earlier, UDP MDC Teibor Pathaw spoke about the manner in which the oath was being administered stating that the oath should be administered by a pro-tem chairman and not by officials.
The oath was administered by the deputy commissioners East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills on Wednesday.
Again, he suggested that the MDCs should be addressed by fellow members as per their constituency and not by their names as followed in the Legislative Assembly.
The two spoke at the time when they stood up to congratulate PN Syiem for being elected as chairman of the KHADC.
Syiem echoed the sentiments of Lyngdoh saying singing the Khasi anthem will make the atmosphere more solemn and inspire love for the Khasi community.  As for the oath-taking ceremony in Khasi, Syiem said experts in Khasi language will be consulted on the matter.
