SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday introduced Meghalaya Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2019 to enable the chairperson to function as the lone member without others.
As per the original Act, a chairperson and four members constitute the Meghalaya Lokayukta. Last November, the former judge of Gauhati High Court, Pranoy Kumar Musahary was sworn in as the first chairperson of the Meghalaya Lokayukta. The amendment was introduced since the Lokayukta can start functioning. Another amendment was regarding the oath of office by the chairman.
