International Women’s Day celebrated in state

SHILLONG/TURA: The International Women’s Day was celebrated in South West Garo Hills on Friday with the theme ‘Balance for Better’.
Two separate programmes were organised by District Swachh Bharat Mission (G) in collaboration with National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) at Betasing and Zikzak, respectively as a mark of appreciation and respect for women for their contribution as well as to sensitise them of their role and encourage them to take part in promoting the goals of Swachh Bharat Mission.
A large number of women including young girls as well as men took part in the celebration.
Participating in the celebration as the chief guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner, S.C.Laloo hailed women as indispensable part of the society and paid rich tributes to them for their contribution to the home and the community. He also called for complete empowerment of women for building stronger homes and a strong society. Nokma of Chapahati-3 village, J A Sangma, officials of SBM (G) and NRLM also addressed the gathering during the celebration. As part of the programme, negative effects of open defecation and proper ways and methods of waste management were shared and discussed, while role play on open defecation and waste management was presented by SBM facilitators.
Consequences of early marriage were shared by the NRLM Cluster Coordinator while SHG groups under NRLM displayed their creativity through presentation of songs and dances.
AROH foundation
Celebration of economic, political and social competence and achievements of women in the society was celebrated by the social service organization, AROH Foundation.
The objective of the event was to inform the disadvantaged girls and women belonging to different sections under the organization, their rights, and through skill training and livelihood, the theme of this time is “Balance for Better” was to move forward.
Girls of Sangam Vihar slum of Delhi were also made aware of women’s law and rights and in the presence of government teachers, women empowerment was portrayed by colorful event.
In concluding ceremony, Dr. Neelam Gupta, the founder of the institution, AROH Foundation, gave a message to all the girls and women that women are flying fighter planes today, making policies, in sports, in education, in government, in corporate sector, are scattered.
Meghandini Mahila Samiti
Meghandini Mahila Samiti, Shillong in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Shillong & Indian Council for Cultural Relations, also celebrated International Women’s Day at Jail Road, Shillong. During the event group discussions, awareness on women social assistance schemes and cultural programs was held. 40 women participants took part in the event, raising slogans for their dignity.
