TURA: Supporters of a Garoland state under the aegis of the Garoland State Movement Committee have proposed to stage a dharna outside the office of the West Garo Hills deputy commissioner on March 19 to press for their demand a separate state carved out of the Garo Hills region in Meghalaya.
Chairman of GSMC, Nikman Marak, told The Shillong Times that the supporters of the movement from different parts of the state will send delegates to participate in the sit-in dharna from 10 AM to 3 PM outside the DC office in Tura.
“We have also invited other NGOs and groups to join our protest and are expecting their representation at the dharna,” said Nikman Marak.
The GSMC had, last year, held protest rallies at both state capital Shillong and the national capital New Delhi to raise awareness of their demand before the political leadership at both state and national level.
A number of student organizations and other Garo bodies had lend support to the demand by participating in the dharna.
