SHILLONG: Congress legislator Azad Zaman has urged the state government to create a new district at Rajpur, which is a historical place under his Rajabala constituency.
Zaman, who took part in the debate on governor’s address in the Assembly on Monday, said if there is difficulty in creating a district, a civil sub division, which will fulfil all the criteria for closer and better administration, can be created.
He also said there is an urgent need to have another Meghalaya House in Guwahati as the present one has limited accommodation. He asked the government to include the proposal in the budget.
The legislator has also expressed concern over the delay in allotment of foodgrain to the fair price dealers.
He further wanted to know whether the government will provide compensation to the victims of mine tragedy in East Jaintia Hills as only Rs 1 lakh each was given.
