THRISSUR (KERALA): Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday assured the fishermen community that a Congress-led government will form a special Ministry for fisheries.

Gandhi said this while addressing a meeting here at the ‘Fishermen’s Parliament’.

“I am not like Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi who does not keep his promises. I assure you and promise you that when our government comes to power in 2019, there will be a dedicated Ministry for fisheries,” said Gandhi.

“Go through my speeches. Whatever I have said will be done, has been done. The exclusive ministry for your needs will be like a non-violent weapon for all of you. Issues with the Sri Lankan Navy, Coastal Regulation Zone and trawlers will all be addressed,” added Gandhi.

Gandhi arrived here on Wednesday night.

After meeting the families of three Congress workers killed by alleged CPI-M workers in Kannur and Kasargode, he will return to Kozhikode to kickstart the Lok Sabha poll campaign in the state.IANS
