Sec 144 imposed in WGH
AMPATI: In view of the announcement of Lok Sabha Elections 2019, the District Magistrate, South West Garo Hills, Ramkumar S, has issued an order promulgating Section 144 of the CrPC in the entire district with immediate effect. The order prohibits carrying of arms, defacement of government or individual property, premises, land, building etc for banners and posters and display of flags and stickers in private or commercial vehicles to ensure free fair and peaceful elections in the district.

Control room set up for polls
TURA: In view of Lok Sabha elections 2019, a Control Room for registering and monitoring complaints regarding violation of Model Code of Conduct and other election related issues has been set up in the office of the District Election Officer, South Garo Hills, Ampati. Complaints, if any, can be lodged in the following Nos: 1950 (landline toll free number), 9366878508 (Jio) and 7630057049 (Airtel). Meanwhile, the District Magistrate, South West Garo Hills District has asked all arms license holders to deposit their arms immediately at the nearest police station and police outpost for smooth and peaceful conduct of the election.

Unpunctual staff irks college body
TURA: The Tura Government College Students’ Union (TGCSU) has submitted a complaint to West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner alleging lack of punctuality by the non-teaching staff of the college. A delegation of the union led by President, Tengku A Sangma and General Secretary, John Ch Sangma along with other leaders met the DC and apprised him off their grievances on Thursday. In their complaint, the union alleged the non-teaching staff of coming to attend office only at around 11: 20 am and leave at 3 pm which according to them, is not enough time to complete official work.”The office hour starts from 10 am and students queue up at the college counter even before the staff comes and opens it. By the time the staff arrives, there is a long line and they are unable to complete the official works of each and every student,” John Ch Sangma, the General Secretary of the union claimed.

4th teachers ask govt to hike salary
SHILLONG: The All Garo Hills 4th Teachers’ Association has sought the MDA government’s attention to the plight of around 1,513 teachers and asked for a pay hike.The association, in a statement issued on Thursday, said it was unhappy about the disparity in salary between assistant teachers and fourth teachers irrespective of the same work experience and qualification. The upper primary school teachers under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) requested for a pay hike. It was also said that the 4th teachers of SSA schools, who are in service for many years, have not been regularised. The teachers’ body urged the government to take “immediate steps” to increase payment and for regularisation of services.

Phulbari CHC upgrade demand
Shillong: The Anti-Corruption and Human Development Organisation (ACHDO) in a press statement demanded to upgrade Phulbari Community Health Centre to Civil Hospital including the opening of Primary Health Centre of Chibinang. It added that the infrastructure at the CHC is so poor that most of the patients have to go to Tura or Goalpara for any minor injury. With the lack of health facilties it is difficult for people to travel with the bad condition of roads as well. The organization also stated that construction of Chibinang PHC is completed but is yet to be opened. It urged the government to also introduce a college with Science stream. ACHDO commented on the MTET question paper leak where report was supposed to be given in 12 days but it is yet to be done. It added that the SIT should come up with its report.
