State ranks 3rd in antenatal HIV cases

SHILLONG: Meghalaya ranks third in terms of HIV prevalence in antenatal clinics (ANC) after Mizoram and Nagaland, according to the HIV Sentinel Surveillance report 2017. This was informed by Meghalaya AIDS Control Society Project Director Shemphang Lyngdoh during the sensitisation programme on HIV/AIDS for legislators of Meghalaya.
The Meghalaya Legislators Forum on HIV/AIDS (MLFA) in collaboration with the Health Department organised the programme.
As per the data from April–December 2018, the total number of HIV positive individuals at integrated counselling and testing centres in Meghalaya is 699. The number of people registered under HIV care is 3,907 and initiated on antiretroviral therapy (ART) was 3,193, of whom 2,273 are alive and are on ART.
