SHILLONG: Empanelled lawyer for North East Daniel Stone Lyngdoh has filed two FIRs against a beggar for impersonating as a person from the Khasi community.
In his complaint to the joint commissioner of police, Lyngdoh, who is the nodal officer for North East region, said the accused person, who claimed to be Panbor Simon Kharkongor, begged for money from Kolanstar Syngkon of the Meghalaya cadre. Kharkongor claimed to be from Cleve Colony. Syngkon clicked a photo with a video and posted on Facebook.
After the video went viral, Lyngdoh approached the Meghalaya House in Delhi where he was informed that the same person visited Meghalaya House in 2016.
He also claimed that he was from Mawryngkneng.
Lyngdoh lodged two FIRs, one at Mawryngkneng police station and the other at Laitumkhrah police station. Reports from the two police stations reveal that there is no such name or person in Mawryngkneng or Laitumkhrah.
In this connection, Lyngdoh said the accused should be booked for cheating under Section 415 of the IPC with punishment under Section 417, cheating by impersonating under Section 416 of the IPC with punishment under Section 419 of the IPC. Addressing reporters here on Friday, Lyngdoh said such a person tarnishes the image of Khasis outside the state of Meghalaya.
“There are no such beggars among the Khasis who are working outside the state of Meghalaya,” he added.
