SHILLONG: Congress legislator PT Sawkmie criticised the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) which consists of the NPP, BJP, UDP, HSPDP and People’s Democratic Front (PDF), for its association with the BJP.

Speaking at a meeting at his office in Mawlai Nongpdeng on Saturday, the Congress MLA said, “If the BJP comes to power after the next Lok Sabha election, the people of the state will face difficulties besides the party will push for enacting the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).”

“Regional parties also came under criticism given that UDP will work together with BJP and NPP if the BJP wins,” he said,

It may be mentioned that the UDP is fielding former legislator, Jemino Mawthoh as the common candidate of the MDA from Shillong Lok Sabha seat while the Tura Lok Sabha has gone to the NPP.  BJP, an ally in the MDA, will go solo for the Lok Sabha polls in Meghalaya.

On the other hand, the Congress legislator sought the support of the people for the Congress MP candidates, Vincent Pala from Shillong Lok Sabha seat and Mukul Sangma from Tura Lok Sabha seat.

The state will go to the Lok Sabha polls on April 11. Pala will be contesting for the third time while Mukul Sangma will be contesting parliamentary election for the first time.
