Google training for scribes before Lok Sabha polls

SHILLONG: The Google News Initiative, in partnership with DataLeads and Internews, organised a training programme for working journalists, media educators and journalism students titled ‘Poll Check India: Covering India’s Elections’ in the city on Saturday.
The training was conducted in association with Shillong Press Club and
supported by the state electoral officer, Department of Information and Public Relations and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.
Google-certified trainers Monjib Mochahari and Jaikishan SG, both assistant professors at Assam Don Bosco University, conducted the day-long training.
The programme was organised as part of a training series to support journalists covering the upcoming general elections and the focus of the training was on digital safety and security for journalists, live streaming elections, photo and verification and how to tackle fake news in India.
At least 69 working journalists, media educators, photographers and journalism students from across Meghalaya participated in the programme.
Since 2016, Google has trained more than 13,000 journalists in India across 200 newsrooms in 40 cities. This training is currently being conducted in 30 cities across the country in English, Hindi, Malayalam, Bengali, Kannada, Gujarati, Odiya, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi.
