GUWAHATI: Amid speculations that the sitting MP from Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency, Ram Prasad Sharma, who has quit the BJP alleging insult he had to face within the party, is set to join the Congress, has clarified that he will not join any other political party but will resume his practice as a lawyer.

Reacting to media reports suggesting that RP Sharma is likely to join other political party to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections, said, “I will never join any other party whatever the offer.”

The MP from Tezpur said he would not join any other political party as he couldn’t follow any other ideology except that of the RSS. He has been a Swayem Sevak of the RSS since 1976.

He said that he would once again start his law practice. The MP has resigned from the saffron party on Saturday after being certain that the party is not going to re-nominate him to contest Lok Sabha election from Tezpur.

His resignation and the opposition Congress’ decision to take more time to announce its candidate for Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency have led to speculations that R P Sharma is going to join Congress. A section of leaders in Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) have even reacted adversely in the media in reaction to the speculation doing rounds.

Meanwhile, the sitting BJP MP from Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency and the Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain too is unlikely to be nominated by the party to contest the next Lok Sabha election.

It may be mentioned that a case of harassment of a woman is pending against the Nagaon MP of the BJP in High Court.
