SHILLONG: The Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama in Sohra celebrated the 184th birth anniversary of Ramakrishna Paramahansa Deva on Saturday.
Around 5,000 people, including students, participated in the celebrations.
Governor Tathagata Roy, who was the chief guest, addressed the gathering by describing Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda as “the idols of the present world”.
The governor also stated Ramakrishna’s universal philosophy of realisation of same God through different religious practices.
The celebrations also included a procession with the chariot of Ramakrishna, colourful cultural programmes and distribution of prasad among guests.
