Car lifter nabbed

TURA: The police and residents of northern Hawakhana nabbed the car thief who set a Hyundai Creta (ML 08E 5477) on fire, on Monday.
The car lifter who was identified as Tangseng Marak of Mendipathar, attempted to the steal the car from Te’teng A’ja at 4 am, but later set it on fire on failing to do so. The car sustained damage to the front interior and seats were completely burnt Initially, the residents managed to capture the thief who then fled and jumped into a gorge which was 10 to 15 meters deep. The culprit was later discovered hidden in a narrow hole underneath a vehicle service centre.
He was assaulted by an angry mob before the police finally cuffed him. He was taken to examine the injuries which he sustained while jumping into the deep gorge. Moreover, the police have informed that Marak was a member of an infamous car lifter gang. Rorok of resubelpara, one of the gang members was recently arrested, upon whose lead a stolen bike was traced and recovered. Superintendent of police M G R Kumar said efforts are on to nab the other gang members.
“Our leads point to a multilevel gang who keep on passing vehicles between chains of handlers. Valuable clues have been revealed. Police are working on the same to arrest more involved,” Kumar said.
