TURA: The Election Expenditure Observer, Mrs Gudrun Nehar, IRS (IT) held a meeting on Tuesday evening with officials of banks, financial institutions, representatives of political parties, officials of Income Tax and Excise Department.
During the meeting Gudrun Nehar seeks coordination from the banks with regard to the expenditure part during election and also directed them to monitor unusual or doubtful transactions especially while the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is enforced in the district. She also requested them to coordinate with their counterparts in other districts and facilitate for the smooth conduct of Lok Sabha Election 2019 to 2-Tura Parliamentary Constituency and Bye-Election to 48-Selsella (ST) Assembly Constituency.
The District Election Officer (DEO), West Garo Hills Ram Singh have also directed the Excise Department to monitor and conduct naka checking along with police personnel including distribution of cash and liquor in the poll-bound district. Further, he also informed that the District Election Office (DEO) would be conducting various awareness programmes in order to encourage and motivate ethical voting amongst the people of the region and avoid accepting of cash, liquor, etc., during election.
Biswarup Das, IRS, Extra Assistant Commissioners, West Garo Hills, D A Sangma, T R Marak, Superintendent of Police, Dr. M G R Kumar, L Vaiphei, Income Tax Officer, Guwahati, Assam, Representatives from different Banks in the district, Representatives from Indian National Congress(INC) and Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) were among others present at the meeting.
