SHILLONG/GUWAHATI: Breaking his silence, BJP leader AL Hek on Monday said he would abide by the decision of the party if it wants to field him as the candidate from Shillong seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“I will abide by whatever decision the party high command takes,” he said.
It may be mentioned that the BJP, apart from Hek and Sanbor Shullai, has sent the names of three other individuals to the party high command for the Shillong seat, but the latter wants Hek to contest the elections.
The Shillong seat at the moment is primed for a direct fight between Congress’s Vincent Pala and Jemino Mawthoh, who is being projected by MDA as the common candidate.
Meanwhile, former legislator Billykid A. Sangma has predicted that there might not be any BJP candidate selected for the Tura seat, which is set for a “clash of the titans” on April 11.
“I do not think that the party high command will field anyone for the Tura Lok Sabha seat as there is no high profile candidate from the party,” Billykid told The Shillong Times from Kharkutta on Monday.
The state BJP had earlier this month forwarded four names for the Tura seat to the party’s central team. They are Digross D Shira (who had contested from Mendipathar in the last Assembly elections), Rikman G Momin (candidate from Rongjeng), KC Boro (candidate from Tikrikilla) and Thomas Marak (candidate from Songsak).
“They had also lost the Assembly elections last year and were placed last in the vote tally,” Billykid said hinting that the party would ultimately consider the winnability factor.
