5 held in Cachar BJP leader’s murder case

GUWAHATI: Police have detained five persons for interrogation in connection with Thursday night murder of Sukhendu Das (40), president of Haticherra Gram Panchayat and a leader of the BJP in Borkhola block of Assam’s Cachar district.

Das’ party colleague Rinku Senapati (30) was critically injured in the attack. Das was pillion riding the scooter of Rinku Senapati.

Sukhendu Das was shot at by unidentified miscreants last night when he was returning home from an election meeting of the BJP on a scooter.  He was shot from behind by unidentified assailants and the bullets pierced through his body. BJP worker Rinku Senapati, who was driving the scooter, was critically injured after being hit by bullets.

Both of them were rushed to Silchar Medical College Hospital where Sukhendu, succumbed to his injuries. Rinku Senapati is now undergoing treatment in the ICU of the hospital.
