TURA: A two-day demonstration workshop on resource management under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) was conducted for the village-level functionaries at Betasing Multi-Facility Centre in South West Garo Hills district that concluded on Friday.

The workshop was conducted by the team of District Coordinator and Block coordinators from District Swachh Bharat Mission (DSBM) under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, DSBM Ramkumar S and EE (PHE) and Member Secretary DBSM, J.M. Sangma.

During the workshop, the village functionaries were explained about the importance of understanding the goal of Swachh Bharat Mission and the need for their collective action towards safe sanitation and waste management for creating healthy environment for all-round community development.

Focusing on waste as a resource in resource management, a demonstration on resource management by utilizing available community resources and also making of kitchen garden was demonstrated by SBM facilitators involving the community during the two-day workshop. Other techniques such as making of bio-pesticides, Amrit Pani, Panchigaviam, etc were also demonstrated. These are types of pesticides derived from safe natural ingredients including cow urine. These are easy and effortless techniques practised since times immemorial but often forgotten by all.

The participants were made to understand that if every community can start adopting these practices and share the same to others, these small steps could go a long way  in building a clean and garbage free environment.
