Independent judiciary a must: Tripura Guv

Agartala: Tripura Governor Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki on Saturday stressed on the independence of the judiciary, which is the key to the dispensation of justice.
Addressing the 6th foundation day of the High Court of Tripura, the governor emphasized on the need of improving the performance of the judiciary and opined that judges should always have the urge to deliver justice on time for protection of the Constitution and its values.
He called upon the legal fraternity to update themselves in the field of judicial services and to be more people friendly.
Appreciating the role of the High court in the governance of Tripura, the governor urged the judiciary to be vigilant for strengthening of democracy.
He urged for a closer relation between common people and judiciary.
Chief Justice of the High Court Sanjay Karol applauded the achievement of the high court in the justice-delivery system. He attributed that the attempt of the judiciary is to bring peace in society.
Highlighting the shortage of judges he said as on date more than three crore cases have been pending for a long time.
However, despite having a shortage of judges the Tripura High Court doesn’t have any pending case of more than five years.
“After I came to Tripura to assume the office of the Chief Justice, I along with my two colleagues have chalked out an action plan to address all issues related to delivery of justice,” he added. (UNI)
