SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has recognised Pyndapbor Saibon as the president of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM).
The court in an order on March 20 said the present position of the petitioner (Saibon), as it exists shall be maintained. The matter is listed again after three weeks, Saibon said.
Addressing the press on Monday, Saibon said the Election Commission of India had advised KHNAM to resolve the dispute amicably within the party or else by the orders of a competent court.
He said KHNAM candidate for the Shillong seat in the ensuing Lok Sabha election, THS Bonney, who is backed by MLA Adelbert Nongrum, is likely to be disqualified from contesting.
He maintained that the returning officer (RO) and the chief electoral officer (CEO) should comply with the high court order, copies of which have been sent to them to disallow Nongrum from signing forms A and B.
Saibon asserted that they will file a case of contempt against the CEO and the RO if they fail to comply with the order.
When asked whether any disciplinary action will be taken against Nongrum, Saibon replied in the negative.
He said it is difficult for the KHNAM to contest the Lok Sabha elections as it does not have a base across Khasi and Jaintia hills.
