Khasi traditional medicine panel reconstituted

SHILLONG: The Executive Committee (EC) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has reconstituted the Khasi Traditional Medicine Commission with Executive Member TW Chyne as chairman of the committee.
The four Khasi traditional practitioners, who are part of the Commissionare D.L. Nongspung, Alka Kharsati, Boss Myrthong and Dlas Rani.
Others in the panel include two practitioners of other systems of medicine, JP Lyngdoh and Balanstar Basaiawmoit. Four members of the Civil Society, AK Nongkynrih, Allantry Dkhar, Kitboklang Nongphlang and Don Syiem are also part of the panel.
The report of the EC on the commission was tabled by Chyne on Monday during the Budget session of the KHADC.
Replying to points raised by members of the opposition, he said the traditional practitioners should come forward to register with the Commission.
To a question by Congress MDC Lamphrang Blah, Chyne said the target to complete the construction of the Institute of Traditional Medicine is 2022, while the work in progress is 60 per cent.
Congress MDC Grace Kharpuri pointed out that experts should be consulted before issuing certification to the traditional healers.
