A K Sawkmie elected Deputy Chairman of KHADC

SHILLONG: National People’s Party (NPP), MDC Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie has been elected unopposed as Deputy Chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Wednesday during the ongoing budget session.

A newly-elected MDC from Mawsynram, Sawkmie’s nomination was proposed by HSPDP MDC, Sherborlang Mawlong and UDP MDC, Teibor Pathaw and seconded by UDP MDC, Ryngkatlang Lyndem and PDF MDC, Macdalyn Sawkmie.

Delivering his maiden speech, Sawkmie observed the combination of the youth and the experienced in the KHADC. He said the youth in the KHADC needed guidance of seniors.

He maintained on upholding impartiality as a Deputy Chairman and to follow the Autonomous District rules.

Chairman of the KHADC, PN Syiem said members should not get emotional but should be guided by rules to maintain decorum.

Syiem was the former MDC of Mawsynram while Sawkmie is the sitting MDC of Mawsynram.
