SHILLONG: The duration of the on-going Budget session of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has been reduced to four days instead of five days in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The budget session was originally scheduled from March 25 to March 29.
Post the felicitation speeches of MDCs to the newly-elected Deputy Chairman Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie, UDP MDC Titoswell Chyne raised a point of order and asked if the days can be reduced since the MDCs were busy with Lok Sabha elections.
He suggested if the session be reduced from five to four days and the Budget discussion should be held in the morning session while the demand for grants should be for the evening session.
Congress MDC and spokesperson of the party, Ronnie Lyngdoh supported the suggestion and said it was okay.
Chairman of KHADC, PN Syiem announced changes in the schedule which was approved by the MDCs.
