SHILLONG: KHNAM Lok Sabha candidate THS Bonney said he submitted his explanation to the returning officer (RO) on Wednesday stating that he is still a KHNAM candidate.
Earlier, RO Abhishek Bhagotia had issued notice to Bonney seeking explanation after KHNAM president Pyndapbor Saibon objected to his candidature supported by the party’s MLA Adelbert Nongrum, whose name is there in the affidavit.
When contacted, Bonney did not want to reveal what was in his letter. “I have sent my explanation as MP candidate of KHNAM. I did not give my explanation as an independent candidate.”
As for CPI candidate Justice Kharbasanti the matter will be taken up on Thursday. Kharbasanti did not mention about the Rs 4.5-lakh liability in the affidavit.
Congress stand-by candidate Kennedy Khyriem withdrew his nomination on Wednesday after Vincent Pala’s papers were found to be valid. Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor said the documents to be obtained from Bonney were furnished. “The returning officer will take a decision regarding the two candidates on Thursday,” he added.
