SHILLONG: Congress MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri took offence to a statement of Deputy CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem who criticised the Chairman of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), PN Syiem in the media.
Speaking during the felicitation speech after the election of NPP MDC Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie, she said it is improper for the Deputy CEM to claim that the Chairman aims to become a CEM.
She argued that the issue should not be politicised.
It may be mentioned that Pyniaid spoke to a section of reporters that Syiem attempted to undermine the capability of the Executive Member of the new EC by advising the EM to come prepared to the House.
At this juncture, CEM Teiñwell Dkhar and MDC Titoswell Chyne stood up to assert that it is the felicitation period and not to bring up some other issue other than felicitation speech for the Deputy Chairman.
However, Kharpuri remained firm and said it is important as the Deputy Chairman should perform his duty well by being impartial.
To this situation, the Chairman said the time is only for felicitation of Deputy Chairman and any other issue will be taken up later.
