GUWAHATI: The Congress party on Friday has announced the names of the remaining four candidates in Assam for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election thereby by completing the list of 14 candidates for all the Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

The party has nominated senior leader Bobeeta Sharma for prestigious Gauhati Lok Sabha Constituency, party MLA Abdul Khaleque for Barpeta Constituency, ex-MLA Abdu Taher Bepari for Dhubri Constituency and  Sabda Ram Rabha for Kokrajhar (ST) Constituency.

The party took a long time to decide on its candidate for Gauhati Constituency  as opinions among the state party leaders were hugely divided over the choice of candidate in the constituency where the rival BJP has fielded former Mayor of Guwahati, Queen Ojha.

The Congress is contesting in all the 14 Lok Sabha Constituency in the state without any formal poll alliance even though the rival BJP-led alliance has accused the party of having covert understanding with the ‘communal’ All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) led by perfume mogul and MP, Badruddin Ajmal.

The BJP has left Barpeta, Dhubri for its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Kokrajhar for the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) which has nominated MLAS Promila Rani Brahma.
