SHILLONG: Opposition chief whip and Congress MLA PT Sawkmie said that the present MDA government should take responsibility for not lifting the ban on coal mining rather than blaming the Congress party and former chief minister, Mukul Sangma.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Sawkmie said that the MDA government has completed one year but there has not been any tangible result.
“The MDA government should have charged the BJP government at the Centre for not helping the state government in lifting the ban on coal mining,” Sawkmie said.
“BJP had promised that within 3 months, the party will lift the ban on coal mining if it comes to power, but nothing has happened even though the BJP is part of the present MDA government,” he said. Sawkmie also asked why the MDA chief is not charging the BJP government for not doing anything to ameliorate the sufferings of the people affected by coal mining.
“It seems that the MDA government wants to save the face of the BJP and put the blame on the Congress. Blame game will not reach anywhere and the present government has to work hard to show the result,” Sawkmie said.
