Congress promises computers, bicycles to poor in Arunachal

Itanagar: The Congress on Friday said it will improve infrastructure of all schools in Arunachal Pradesh and will give free computers and bicycles to economically poor students if the party is voted to power in the upcoming state Assembly election.
Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Takam Sanjoy while addressing an election rally at remote Vijaynagar in Changlang district which is yet to be connected by roads, said that the Congress would start construction of the Miao-Vijaynagar road within six months of coming to power.
The road which was started in early 70s, is yet to see the light of the day.
Sanjoy also said that the Congress will introduce air sorties to Vijaynagar five days in a week till the completion of the road and also promised better road, rail and air connectivity throughout the state if voted to power.
The party offered various sops like implementation of new schemes in a time-bound manner besides ensuring free distribution of school uniforms, books and their timely delivery and improving quality of mid-day meals.
“All elementary level schools will be suitably equipped to provide computer education. Schemes for cash awards to recognise the sincere efforts of the teachers … , financial help to poor students for pursuing higher education will be implemented besides providing internet facilities in all schools,” Sanjoy said.
He said the Congress government will provide free supply of nutritional supplements like vitamins, iron tabs to BPL category lactating mothers besides supply of sanitary napkins in rural areas and reviewing of Health Insurance Schemes for better and effective implementation.
“Upgrading primary health care centers and providing a maternity ward in each center, increasing hospital beds … and adequate doctors and paramedical staff in all hospitals will be the priority of the party if voted to power,” he added.
Elections to the two Lok Sabha seats and the state Assembly would be held simultaneously on April 11 in Arunachal Pradesh. (PTI)
