SHILLONG: While the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is seeking re-election as the PM, the Opposition Congress fears that a second term for Modi as the PM will be dangerous for the country

Speaking at a public meeting organised by Congress in Laban on Saturday, Opposition chief whip and Congress MLA, PT Sawkmie said that the people should choose the best of the best as the PM of the country

Accusing Modi of harassing the common and poor people of the country, he added that many even in the BJP ranks were not happy with Narendra Modi.

Stating that demonetisation was a wrong move of the Union Government, he added that India under the leadership of Modi is going backward instead of moving forward.

Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee, president, Dr Celestine Lyngdoh said that the UDP is accusing Congress of working for some communities but it was the Congress Government which had enacted the Fifth and Sixth Schedules for the benefit of the tribals

‘India needs a Prime Minister and not a chowkidar,” he said.

The Congress candidate, Vinvent Pala said that in the last ten years, he has brought many developmental projects to Shillong be it the roads, the passport office or even the High Court.

Terming unemployment as the biggest challenge, he alleged that BJP has planned an evil design for the people of the South Shillong constituency as the BJP wants to send the local MLA, Sanbor Shullai who is doing an excellent job here, to Delhi

He also said that the design of the BJP is to cut down the votes of Congress as most of the non- tribals in Shillong vote for the Congress

“We need a party with numbers in the Parliament as handful of MPs belonging to regional parties will sit at the back in the House of Parliament and nobody will even listen to them,” he said.
