SHILLONG: If Vincent Pala is a crorepati with around Rs 40 crore of assets, then his wife Dimorine Tariang does not lag too far behind.
A candidate filing affidavit has to give details of property owned by spouse and dependents.
Tariang, a government employee, has movable and immovable assets worth Rs 86.74 lakh and Rs 13.3 crore, respectively, according to the affidavit submitted by Pala.
In the 2014 affidavit, the worth of movable and immovable assets against Tariang’s name shows Rs 33.5 lakh and Rs 11.29 crore, respectively. Both husband and wife have a revolver each. The .32 revolver owned by Tariang is valued at Rs 15,000, according to the 2019 affidavit. The 2014 affidavit shows the value as Rs 25,000.
Pala shares his good luck with party colleague Mukul Sangma and rival Sanbor Shullai is quickly catching up.
Sangma’s wife, MLA Dikkanchi D Shira, is also a crorepati with around Rs 1.9 crore in movable assets (Rs 2 crore in 2018) and Rs 8.24 crore of immovable assets (Rs 8.1 crore in 2018). She owns numerous plots of land and houses in Shillong, Tura and New Delhi.
The immovable assets have increased by Rs 4 crore since 2013.
The wife of BJP candidate Sanbor Shullai, who owns assets worth around Rs 5 crore, is a government servant. Polly Rabon is the proud owner of Rs 5.2-lakh worth movable assets and Rs 8.56 crore immovable.
Evamon Nongrum, the wife of MDA’s common candidate for Shillong seat, Jemino Mawthoh, is an employee of the Shillong Municipal Board and owns movable assets worth Rs 13.1 lakh. She does not own any property.
