SHILLONG: The North East Nutrition and Dietetic Association (NENDA) in collaboration with the Department of Allied Health Sciences (AHS) of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), Shillong organised a one-day training programme on Therapeutic Diet for Chronic Kidney Disorder (CKD) at the Food Science Laboratory of MLCU on Saturday.
The faculty and students from St. Mary’s College, Union Christian College, Umiam and members of the Department of AHS participated in the programme.
Resources person Grace Passah, PhD in Nutrition and assistant professor of the Department of AHS said that the objective of the program is to ‘create an attractive and appealing therapeutic diet for kidney patients to aid in uplifting their nutritional status.’
She further highlighted that the context of the training was the incidence and prevalence of CKD noted in our state.
Kidney patients are subjected to restricted diet and tend to be malnourished. Secretary of NENDA Ritu Rai stated that malnutrition status of the patient was always the prime interest in all cases and not the disorder.
The programme attempted to decide on recipes that patients can relish. A one-day menu was planned by the members of NENDA and a demonstration of the same was carried out by trainer , Bhagawati.
The recipes ranged from authentic Northeastern delicacies to Indian dishes and continental recipes.
