SHILLONG: On being elected after eleven long years, the residents of picturesque village of Lynshing felicitated Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) MDC of Mawkynrew, Martle Mukhim.

Speaking at the felicitation programme on Saturday at Lynshing, Mukhim became emotional and tears rolled down his eyes when he remembered his journey as a public figure.

A native of Lynshing village, he was felicitated in the presence of other HSPDP leaders, MLAs Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar and Cabinet Minister Samlin Malniang.

Mukhim said he had been active in the public service for more than 50 years starting at the time when he was in standard VII. He said his family members urged him to leave behind public service after he lost in several elections, but his passion to serve the constituency drove him to contest elections.

It may be mentioned that the people have elected him after 11 years. He was a former MLA/Minister and MDC. He is currently MDC of Mawkynrew having defeated close contender Amanda Pakyntein, wife of People’s Democratic Front (PDF) Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh.

MLA from Mawkyrwat, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said the success of Mukhim augured well for the constituency since the villages needed the presence of an MDC more than an MLA who will look after the peace and harmony of the villages.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister Samlin Malniang likened Mukhim to a Dieng Bilat (The Pine tree) who endured the disappointment of losing several elections he contested but finally won the MDC seat of Mawkynrew.
