NONGPOH: The newly elected headman of Pahamlapong and Pahamsohthri in Ri Bhoi has been given sanad, a certificate for officially announcing appointment of a traditional chief. Though this is a common practice but in this case it gains importance as for several years, no sanad was given in many villages under Elaka Nongpoh.
The headman, Matthew Kenneth Makdoh, received the sanad from the traditional head of the Elaka, Pa’iem Wanphrang Syiem.
“This is one of our traditions which have been neglected by the headmen of several villages under the Elaka Nongpoh. I’m very happy that the new leaders of this village choose to preserve and revive our tradition which has been long gone. This is a very important aspect of our tradition but with time, we have forgotten it,” Pa’iem Wanphrang said.
Makdoh expressed his gratitude for electing him as the new headman and said his main priorities are to bring about development, maintaining cleanliness and curbing influx. Makdoh also urged people to cooperate with the newly elected village committee.
KHADC usually issues sanad for appointment of chiefs whereas for appointment of lyngdoh raid and headman of a village it is given by the chief of the kingdom.
