TURA: Continuing his tirade against the BJP, a party he feels is detrimental to the interests of the country, Congress candidate for the Tura Lok Sabha seat Mukul Sangma said that unlike the saffron party which runs away from problems of the country, the Congress always rises to tackle these.
The former chief minister has appealed to voters of Garo Hills to strengthen the hand of the Congress by voting for him in the April 11 elections and halting the saffron party’s return to power at the Centre.
“Selling a dream of ‘Achhe Din’ he (Modi) won a landslide victory in the 2014 general elections. But he betrayed the people, the nation and the common man,” charged Mukul Sangma while addressing crowds in the plains belt region of West Garo Hills, this week.
He said that it is in the DNA of the Congress to fight for the people of the country and added that, “We in the Congress always do what we promise. No matter what the problem may be, we always rise to the occasion and try to solve it, whereas other parties run away from the issues.”
Holding a series of public rallies in Rajabala and Phulbari, areas dominated by the minority Muslim community, the Congress candidate warned about the possible impact of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill should the BJP return in Delhi. “They tried to push through the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Parliament by passing it in the Lok Sabha. Had it gone through the Rajya Sabha you can imagine the plight of the people of the North East region,” warned Mukul Sangma.
He said that CAB and the law and order situation in Kashmir were the hallmarks of Modi’s failure on national security.
“Look at what is happening in Kashmir. Terror attacks are frequently taking place, there is no government in place and elections are not being held. There is uncertainty all around the state of Kashmir,” said the Congress candidate as he went on to point out to the rising crime rate in the North East, particularly crimes against women.
“Prime Minister Modi speaks highly about his handling of national security but the ground reality shows otherwise,” said Mukul Sangma in his latest attack against the BJP.
“Promises made by political parties during elections must be delivered. That is true democracy,” said Mukul Sangma.
