Shops gutted in Phulbari fire

SHILLONG/TURA: As many as eight shops were destroyed in a fire that broke out at Shyamding locality of Phulbari town in the West Garo Hills district on Tuesday morning.
According to police reports, the fire, which broke out around 4 am, was caused by faulty wiring which led to a short circuit.
The fire, which destroyed petty shops and a garage, also caused a gas cylinder explosion as one of the shops contained an LPG cylinder.
The cylinder blast led to minor injuries on one person identified as Rafiqul Mondal who was later given first aid and discharged. Police have ruled out foul play in the incident.
Loss of property was estimated at Rs 16 lakh approximately.
Local MLA, SG Estamur Mominin paid a visit to the site and took stock of the situation.
