Agartala: Following the refusal of CBI to investigate the chit fund cases of different Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFC) in Tripura, the high court has sought reply from the Home Ministry asking it whether sufficient manpower and other infrastructure would be given to CBI.
During hearing of the writ petition of a victim depositor in the division bench of the High Court of Tripura, the CBI counsel informed the court that due to shortage of manpower and infrastructure it was impossible for CBI to carry out the investigation into 75 cases referred to them by the state government.
In 2014, a victim had filed writ petition in the High Court seeking CBI investigation into the chit fund cases of Tripura as well as to refund the depositors’ money.
However, instead of sending the cases to CBI, the High Court had constituted a special investigating team (SIT) to enquire into the cases. Accordingly, SIT had taken up as many as 75 cases related to NBFC cheating and chargesheet for 64 cases have been submitted to the trial court.
Meantime, the new council of ministers headed by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb decided to refer all 75 cases to CBI for fair investigation.
When the CBI counsel expressed their inability to investigate the cases due to shortage of infrastructure, the High Court sought reply from Ministry of Home Affairs regarding posting of manpower and facilitate all other infrastructural support to CBI for investigating the cases. (PTI)
