SHILLONG: The North Eastern Hill University Students Union (NEHUSU) has once again appealed for CSIR NET and UGC NET centres in Meghalaya.
A NEHUSU delegation reiterated its demand before Governor Tathagata Roy when it called on him on Friday seeking his intervention.
Talking to media persons after meeting the governor, NEHUSA president Genuica Majaw said that they had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister earlier this year and despite assurances no concrete response has been fothcoming from him, which is why they decided to meet the governor.
She said that the state does not have CSIR NET. However, there is a UGG centre in Qualapatty and this has proven to be a hindrance for the students who want to pursue their careers further. The governor has assured to get the centres in the state.
Majaw further said that the non-availability of the centres in the state has created a lot of problems for the post graduate students especially those from financially weak background. They have to travel from Shillong to Guwahati or other Northeastern states.
“Sometimes right after the post graduate exams we have NET exams. It is exhausting to travel to other states,” she said.
