TURA: Days after a conglomeration of Rabha organizations from Garo Hills pledged their support to the National Peoples’ Party candidate, Agatha K Sangma, the All Rabha Students’ Union (Meghalaya) has distanced itself from the issue stating that the organization was apolitical in nature and as such had no connection with the rest.

A few Rabha groups including the Rabha Jatiya Seva Sangha (RJSS), All Rabha Students Union (ARSU), All Rabha Women’s Welfare Association (ARWWA) and the Rabha Intellectual Forum (RIF) had earlier pledged their support to the NPP candidate.

In a statement on Saturday the vice president, Sampalat Rabha and general secretary, Radesh Rabha of ARSU (M), today clarified that after a meeting between the executive members it was decided politicall support cannot be pledged by the ARSU as the students’ body was apolitical.

“ARSUM has been founded on with the objective to work as an independent pressure group for the upliftment of Rabha society and as such the support to the NPP is a completely personal decision of the president. The ARSUM does not support any political party and we deny extending any support to any party whatsoever,” stated the student body.
