SHILLONG: Stern action must be taken against human rights violators, Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya, Mohammad Yakoob Mir said at a programme organised by the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission at Pine Wood Hotel here on Saturday.
Speaking at the programme on ‘Human rights and constitutional remedies’, he stressed that human rights violators should be dealt with sternly.
”Violation of human rights has no place in civilisation. Violators have to be dealt with an iron hand,” he added. Maintaining that no one should take law into their hands, Mir pointed out that one should not be a mute spectator when human rights are violated.
According to him, ugly situations arise if the essence of humanity is taken away and human rights are permitted to be violated on the grounds of gender, caste, ethnicity or religion.
”Human rights are basic and fundamental in absence of which no one can live a life of dignity,” he said.
He spoke about the golden principles of not to hurt anybody and no one will be hurt.
Lauding the organisers, Mir urged the commission to hold more awareness programmes to promote constitutional values amongst the people.
