Cash, drugs, liquor seized ahead of polls in Hailakandi

GUWAHATI: A team of Hailakandi Police and Static Surveillance Team (SST) seized over Rs 4.5 lakh at two different places in Hailakandi district on Sunday.

The team of Hailakandi Police and SST recovered Rs.3.47 lakh from a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration no MZ-01Q0009 at Lala bypass (Chandrapur) by seizure officer Mohbubul Islam Laskar and SST-4 headed by Indrajit Das along with police staff of Lala Police Station on Tuesday morning.

Abdul Malik, son of Kala Mia Bill of Aalekhargulo Churgol under Badarpur Karimganj Police Station has been detained for the unaccounted cash.

In another incident at Gaglacherra bridge, Rs 1.10 lakh has been seized from one Sumon Das, son of Arjun Das of Tarapur village under Silchar Police Station, Cachar, FFI by seizure officer Istique Ahmed Choudhury and SST-3 Fokor Uddin Borbhuiya along with police personnel of Lala Police Station.

Following the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Rs. 12.88 lakh cash, 950 grams of narcotic drugs, IMFL and country liquor worth Rs.1.21 lakh have been seized in the district so far.
