JOWAl: The Chad Sukra was celebrated in two places in Jaintia Hills. People of Jowai celebrate the annual Chad Sukra or the sowing festival amidst pomp and gaiety on Sunday.
Chad Sukra is celebrated by the indigenous tribe of Jaintia Hills, Niamtre. It marks joy in the homecoming of relatives and friends before sowing crops.
During this festival, the Pnars believe in offering prayer to God so that their crops will be protected from natural calamities like hailstorm and rain.
Deputy Commissioners from the West and East Jaintia Hills took part in this festival. Others who were present include people from Dulong, Panaliar, Loom longkjam, Chilliang Raij, Loom Kyrwiang, Ummulong and Tpep-Pale.
