TURA: The regional United Democratic Party (UDP), which met on Saturday, in Gajing area of Resubelpara constituency of North Garo Hills has announced its support for the MDA common candidate, Agatha K Sangma in Tura parliamentary election.
Meghalaya Assembly Speaker and UDP party president Donkupar Roy attended the meeting to endorse Agatha’s candidature. Together with him were party leaders Bindo Lanong, Baghmara MLA, Samuel Sangma, state youth wing working president, Anand Marak, Garo Hills president, Beningstone G Momin and women leaders of the party.
“It was a general meeting as well as a campaign for our common candidate, Agatha K Sangma of the NPP. We have resolved to continue working for her to ensure she comes out the winner,” said Anand Marak.
The UDP by its official resolution has decided to support the NPP candidate as reciprocation for the NPP’s support to the common candidate from Shillong, Jemino Mawthoh of the UDP.
Support for Mukul
and Agatha
Independent candidate in the last assembly election from Rajabala constituency, Zimba Sangma joined the Congress and announced his support for Mukul Sangma in this election. He joined the Congress in the presence of Rajabala MLA Azad Zaman and Rangsakona legislator Zenith Sangma.
Meanwhile, a mahila leader of the Congress switched sides to join the NPP with her supporters in Ampati area on Sunday afternoon.
The secretary of the Thakuranbari Mahila Congress Committee Gul Begum along with her supporters joined the NPP at Ishaguri village in the presence of NPP leader and state home minister James Pangsang K Sangma and GHADC CEM Dipul R Marak.
