SHILLONG: Introducing Braille EPIC for the first time, the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Frederick Kharkongor handed over the Braille EPIC to disability icon, Bertha Gyndykes Dkhar.

On receiving the Braille EPIC from Kharkongor, Dkhar gladly said she could use the card for the Lok Sabha Elections to be held on Thursday during a programme held on the concluding day of the Lok Sabha campaigns at U Soso Tham auditorium on Tuesday.

“It was a surprise, I heard they are doing the ballot paper in Braille but when he said EPIC, I did not believe and now I can use this when I go voting on the 11th (of April),” she said.

Speaking at the programme, Kharkongor said staying away from voting was not a form of protest but it was a surrender of rights while pointing out that different programmes and activities rolled out by the Election Department is to motivate the youth to vote to empower the nation.

“All these programmes that we are doing is to ensure that we engage and we connect with you (the youth),” he said to an audience which mostly consisted of young people. IANS
